The Event Command is a 2U rack mount piece of kit, which is in effect two separate lighting control units in one box. On the left hand side is a 4-channel light sequencer and on the right a 4-channel switch pack. The sequencer can be used to power screens, spot boxes, pin spots and PAR cans, while the switch pack operates beam effects. A total of 16 patterns are offered by the light sequencer, with an LED display showing the current program number and a pair of buttons to allow scrolling through them. A further option runs each pattern for eight cycles, before moving on to the next; this allows all of the patterns to run during an evening. Mimic LED's show which output channels are active at any given time and there are also flash buttons, allowing any channel to be overridden manually. If a flash button is held down for a couple of seconds, the channel latches on, until the button is tapped to unlatch it. This makes the sequencer very flexible, for example if pin spots are being used, one could be latched on to provide light for looking at your music collection in a dark room, while the others continue to flash. Alternatively, if eight effect lights are to be used at a particular gig, the Event Command could be used as an 8-channel switch pack. Another LED display and pair of buttons allow the chase speed to be controlled. Ninety nine speed options are provided, ranging from a pause of approximately 5 seconds between steps, to a chase so fast that the lights simply appear to flicker. Sound activated operation is also available, either from the internal microphone or from an external source. A 'beat' option is also provided which changes the sound activated operation so that when a beat is detected, the next step flashes on momentarily and then all lights go out, until the next beat is detected. This creates a completely different effect, which works particularly well with fast paced dance music. Another button allows all the channels of the sequencer to be overridden with a single touch and yet another activates a 'stand by' mode. This turns off all the output channels while the mimic lights remain lit to allow a pattern to be selected and speed set.
